Description:
The USB Charger Doctor is a device that measures the working voltage and current output of any USB port and project. It is a blue plastic device that connects to a USB device and passes the data lines through. USB Charger Doctor has a 0.05-ohm resistor in line with the power pin that is used to measure the current draw. The Doctor’s digital display shows the numbers for testing devices such as chargers, cables, and cell phones.
You can use a USB Charger Doctor with an input voltage of 3.5-7VDC (although most USB devices tend to be around 4.75 to 5.25) and up to 3A of current. It alternates between voltage and current readings every 3 seconds or so. It is a very useful tool for testing USB devices, checking load levels and debugging battery chargers and boost converters. USB Charger Doctor is bigger but more informative than our USB Power Gauge Mini-Kit. It is also not open source so check out the USB Power Gauge mini kit if you want to customize your power gauge indicator.
