Description:
The SparkFun OpenScale presents a comprehensive, open-source platform designed for precise weight and temperature measurement, offering unparalleled flexibility and ease of use. It empowers users to seamlessly integrate a variety of load cells, enabling the creation of custom weighing solutions for diverse applications.
At its core, the OpenScale simplifies the process of transforming raw load cell data into meaningful weight readings. Simply connect a four-wire or five-wire load cell, regardless of its capacity, to the OpenScale, establish a USB connection, and open a terminal window. Instantaneously, mass readings will be displayed at a default baud rate of 9,600bps. This functionality extends to accommodating four load sensors configured in a Wheatstone bridge, allowing for highly accurate and distributed weight measurements.
The OpenScale boasts a robust feature set, driven by the powerful ATmega328P microcontroller, which handles communication and data processing. An integrated FT231 chip with a mini-USB port facilitates seamless USB-to-serial connectivity, simplifying data transfer to a terminal or a data logger such as the OpenLog. The onboard HX711, a 24-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) specifically designed for weighing scales, ensures high-resolution and precise weight measurements. Complementing this, the TMP102 temperature sensor provides accurate ambient temperature readings, allowing for environmental monitoring alongside weight measurements.
