Descriptions:
Mercury Tilt Switch are ingenious electromechanical devices that leverage the unique properties of liquid mercury. Enclosed within a sealed glass envelope, often filled with an inert gas or under vacuum, these switches contain a small quantity of liquid mercury. This metallic element, renowned for its high density and fluidity, is the heart of the switching mechanism.
Gravity exerts a constant downward force on the mercury droplet within the sealed envelope. Consequently, the mercury naturally settles at the lowest point within the enclosure. The key to the switch's operation lies in its orientation. When the switch is tilted in a specific direction, the mercury, driven by gravity, moves towards and makes contact with a set of pre-defined electrical contacts. This contact closure completes an electrical circuit, allowing current to flow.
Specifications:
- Model Type: Tilt Sensor Module
- Operating Voltage (VDC): 3.3 to 5
- Output Format: Digital Switching Outputs (0 and 1)
Features:
- The sensitivity of the drop to gravity provides a unique sensing function and lends itself to simple, low-force mechanisms for manual or automatic operation.
- The switches are quiet, as no contacts abruptly snap together.
- The contacts are enclosed, so oxidation of the contact points is impossible.
- In hazardous locations, interrupting the circuit does not emit a spark that could ignite flammable gases.
- Contacts stay clean, and even if an internal arc occurs, the contact surfaces renew on every operation, so they don’t wear out.
- The mass of the moving mercury drop provides an over-center effect to avoid chattering as the switch tilts.
Package Included:
1 x Mercury Tilt Switch
