Description:

The TMF8701 is a highly precise time-of-flight (ToF) distance ranging sensor designed for accurate, single-zone object detection. By measuring the time it takes for emitted light pulses to return, it provides reliable distance information regardless of an object's color, reflectivity, or texture. This sensor offers exceptional dynamic range, seamlessly transitioning between a close-proximity mode (1-10cm) and a more extended ranging mode (10-60cm) for versatile detection scenarios. Achieves distance measurements with remarkable accuracy, within ±5%, even in challenging lighting conditions, from complete darkness to direct sunlight.

The TMF8701 boasts advanced features, including an integrated histogram for dynamic cover glass calibration and crosstalk compensation, which ensure consistent and accurate readings. On-chip sunlight rejection filters effectively minimize background light noise, enhancing performance in bright environments. Data is efficiently transmitted via a fast-mode I2C communication interface. An integrated microcontroller handles all necessary algorithms directly on the chip, eliminating the need for complex external optics and simplifying integration into projects. This makes the TMF8701 an ideal solution for applications requiring precise and robust distance sensing in diverse environments.
