In general, common anode displays are more popular as many logic circuits can sink more current than they can source. Also note that a common cathode display is not a direct replacement in a circuit for a common anode display and vice versa, as it is the same as connecting the LEDs in reverse, and hence light emission will not take place.

This LCD includes a green LED backlight, which allows the characters to be viewed without ambient light. In normal room light, the characters are visible without the backlight. A 15 ohm resistor is included for current limiting to the backlight, and a foam tape pad is included to help mount the LCD

MAX7219 is a serial input / an integrated output common cathode display drivers, 7 segment digital LED which connects the microprocessor with 8 bit digital display, can also be connected bar graph display or 64 independent LED. It includes an on-chip B BCD encoder, a scanning circuit, some words to drive, but also the static RAM a 8*8 to store each data.
